The project “VHIR Research Building” has been awarded the 2025 FAD Architecture Prize and FAD Opinion Prize, one of the most prestigious accolades in the field. The project, designed by the renowned architectural studios of Jordi Badia, Miquel Espinet, and Jero Gutiérrez (BAAS Arquitectura and Espinet/Ubach), was recognized by the Jury for the outstanding quality of the design, as well as its elegance and precision in execution. The AT3 team participated as part of the joint venture responsible for the construction management.
Located on the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital Campus in Barcelona, the building has become a benchmark thanks to a design that combines functionality, aesthetics, and deep respect for the local community. Of particular note is the building’s integration into its surroundings, creating new pathways accessible to the public, such as the green roof, which has been opened as a viewpoint overlooking the city.
The building consists of three above-ground floors (ground floor +2) and one underground level, all dedicated to laboratories and scientific research spaces. It incorporates advanced construction systems, recycled materials, and passive climate control solutions that significantly reduce energy consumption.
